Qui Tam - The Lawsuit

A fight for scientific integrity.

In October of 2003, I filed a case for qui tam in the Federal District Court of Newark, charging my university and two scientists with whom I had been working with violation of the False Claims Act.

The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) recommends analyzing terminal digits that should be random to identify suspicious data deviations.

Statistician Joel Pitt and I applied this method from the ORI website to examine terminal digits of Coulter counts and colony counts in data from Anupam Bishayee, PhD, a post-doctoral fellow, his supervisor, Roger W. Howell, PhD, and seven other staff members.

This data was obtained through a subpoena during discovery in a lawsuit. Evidence of this medical cover-up shows that Bishayee must learn scientific accountability. After reviewing the evidence, you will see the court's ruling was improper, highlighting government incompetence.

Read the story that inspired the lawsuit.

Book cover of 'The Crying Window' by Helene Z. Hill, Ph.D., featuring a spacious, modern indoor setting with large glass windows and wooden beams.

“The Crying Window by Dr. Helene Hill is a gripping story of a woman in science starting in the 1950s and 1960s. She faced the obligations of being a mother of four children while coping with male discrimination in her professional work. People interested in the brave resilience, accomplishment and whistleblowing of this first-rate scientist will want to read this carefully documented narrative of her struggles and triumphs.”
